ACCESSIBLE DESIGN
ADA Compliant Handrail Systems
Architectural aluminum handrail systems engineered to meet ADA Standards for Accessible Design — graspable, continuous, and code-compliant for commercial ramps, stairs, and accessible routes.
What it is
ACCESSIBLE BY DESIGN. ARCHITECTURAL BY NATURE.
ADA Section 505 sets precise requirements for handrail graspability, height, continuity, and extensions at ramps and stairs. In commercial and institutional construction, those requirements must be met without sacrificing the aesthetic standard the building demands. Hollaender's architectural aluminum railing systems do both.
Our Interna-Rail® and aluminum pipe systems provide the 1-1/4" to 2" graspable OD profile ADA requires, in configurations that allow a fully continuous top rail — no interruption at post connections — with clean, architectural finishes that complement any interior or exterior design.
From hospital corridors to university ramps to transit stations, Hollaender ADA handrail systems are specified by architects who need to satisfy the code, the accessibility consultant, and the design review board at the same time.

Why choose this system
FEATURES & BENEFITS
Graspable profile — 1-1/4" to 2" OD
ADA Section 505.7 requires a graspable cross-section between 1-1/4" and 2" OD. Hollaender aluminum pipe profiles meet this requirement in an architectural finish — no rubber covers or add-on sleeves needed.
Continuous top rail without post interruption
ADA Section 505.3 requires handrails to be continuous for the full length of any stair flight or ramp run. Interna-Rail® and aluminum pipe configurations maintain an uninterrupted graspable surface through every post connection.
Code-compliant horizontal extensions
ADA requires 12" horizontal extensions at the top of ramps and stair-bottom extensions equal to one tread depth. Our return fitting and wall flange system executes these details cleanly with no field fabrication.
Anodized and powder-coat finishes
Clear anodize, dark bronze, black, and custom powder-coat finishes are available. Meet the accessibility requirement and the design intent — in the same system.
Wall-mounted and post-mounted configurations
Both wall-bracket and floor-flange post configurations are available. Single-sided or double-sided ramp handrails, stair rails with intermediate landings — every layout is covered with standard components.
IBC and local code compliance
In addition to federal ADA requirements, our systems meet IBC Section 1012 and 1014 structural load requirements. Hollaender's engineering staff can provide load data and configuration guidance for permit submissions.

FEATURED PRODUCTS

Interna-Rail® ADA Handrail
Interna-Rail®'s inline fitting design produces a clean, continuous top rail profile that satisfies ADA Section 505.3 graspability and continuity requirements in a single architectural system.

Wall Return Bracket
ADA requires compliant handrail ends to return to the wall or post. This wall-mount return bracket terminates the handrail safely and cleanly at stair tops, ramp landings, and accessible route endpoints.

Adjustable Wall Bracket
Wall-mounted handrail support bracket for single-sided ADA railing on ramps and stairs. Adjustable to maintain the required 34"–38" handrail height on any wall substrate.

Floor Flange Post Base
Bolt-down base for post-mounted ADA handrail configurations. Pre-drilled for four anchor bolts — sets post at precise code height on concrete, steel, or wood substrates.
