West Liberty University decided to install a new press box at their football stadium requiring a new railing system.

HMS Architects of New Orleans was tasked by Oschner Medical Centers to design a new campus for their facility located in Kenner, Louisiana. One of their concerns involved exterior guardrail on a down ramp. Due to corrosion and high maintenance, both Oschner and HMS have had issues with traditional welded and painted steel systems in the past. They have observed that repainting the top rails of painted railing costs from $5 to $10 per linear foot every three to five years.

Maple Dale Elementary School, situated in Cincinnati, Ohio, decided to build several new buildings and contracted the architectural work to CR Architecture + Design of Cincinnati. One of the architectural decisions they faced was that of choosing a railing system. Based on both CR’s experience and that of the school, they wanted a less maintenance intensive system than the painted steel system that had been used in the past.
Systems Used:

Indiana University’s Memorial Stadium was due for a redesign of the railing system, which was contracted to RATIO and SmithGroup for design. The design concept was complex, calling for glass railing that was both shoe mounted and post mounted, as well as wire mesh infill panel railing. The original design called for a series of custom post shapes that were unique, but more expensive than the budget could bear.

Joe Vejraska, project architect for GHN Architects and Engineers, worked with the Springfield Public School District in specifying a railing system for the new construction of Glendale High School’s Commons Area. For both aesthetics and maintenance reasons, the owner and architect wanted a railing that was something other than traditional welded painted steel.
